A car caught fire in the lower deck of a Target parking garage on Sunday afternoon on Route 23 in Riverdale, and the flames spread to another car parked facing the first, police said.

Both cars became engulfed in flames until the fires were brought under control by the Riverdale Fire Department, Riverdale police Patrolman Anthony LoPorto said. Both cars were destroyed.

Several other cars were in the immediate area, but weren't damaged. One woman who was parked nearby was able to drive her vehicle to safety as the fire was starting, police said.

The engine compartment of an older model Buick caught fire, and the flames then spread to a Honda SUV, police said.

Fire officials believe the cause of the blaze was electrical, and it wasn't being treated as suspicious, LoPorto said. No injuries were reported.
