WANTAGE — Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of a fire that all but destroyed a tavern on Route 284 late Sunday morning. The blaze at the Log Cabin Inn, which was reported shortly after 11 a.m., resulted in a response by at least nine area fire departments.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze about an hour after it began but remained on the scene another couple of hours to ensure it had been fully extinguished.

Although the structure's charred exterior was still standing, much of its interior had been reduced to a blackened heap of cinder and ashes by the time the blaze was brought under control.
It was not immediately clear if there were injuries or if the structure was occupied at the time the fire was called in.
