UNION BEACH, NJ - At 18:00 hours on June 8, 2014 Union Beach Fire Department received a report of a commercial structure fire at 615 Union Ave. First arriving units reported visible smoke and heavy fire. A 2nd alarm was sounded as a result. Bringing units from Hazlet, Keyport , Holmdel to the scene. 3rd alarm was called at 18:30 bring units from Middletown, Keansburg. A 4th alarm was called at 19:00 hours bring units form Earls Naval fire dept, Monmouth County fire marshal,Monmouth County sheriff office to the scene.

One firefigher, Robert "Hawk" Meyers, 54, of Union Beach passed away in the line of duty as a result of cardiac arrest while battling the 4 alarm blaze. Investigation into the fire is ongoing at this time.
