MOUNT OLIVE — A fatal fire, the third locally in the last six weeks, took a man’s life late Wednesday afternoon.
The structure fire on Flanders-Drakestown Road was reported to Mount Olive police about 4:30 p.m. and was brought under control less than an hour later, authorities said, but not before destroying the wood-frame home.
The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that an adult male died in the blaze but, as of Thursday morning, would not provide further information about the man’s identity or the cause of the blaze, which was still under investigation.
The Budd Lake Fire Department, on its Facebook page, reported that the department responded to the blaze Wednesday afternoon after receiving a report indicating that a person was trapped inside the home.
Firefighters and emergency personnel from Flanders, Chester, Hackettstown, Netcong, Roxbury, Schooley’s Mountain, Stanhope, and Long Valley were all on the scene as well, as were teams from the Morris County Office of Emergency Management and Morris County Prosecutor’s Office,
The Budd Lake Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary also provided support to those on the scene.
