WEEHAWKEN, NJ - North Hudson Regional firefighters rescued a man from the cliffs of the Palisades in Weehawken after he fell on March 3, 2010.

Emergency units were dispatched shortly before 10:00 p.m. for a man down the cliffs between Pershing Road at the top of the cliffs and Port Imperial Boulevard on the bottom. A badly hurt male was located a short distance from the stairway that runs from the top to the Light Rail Station at the base. Access to the patient was helped by the stairway, but rescue personnel still had to cross over snow covered rocks to reach him.

Initially a high angle removal was contemplated, but with access to the stairway so close it was deemed less risky to remove the patient via the stairway down to the station. The man was treated and placed in a Stokes and brought up to the stairway then across the tracks to a waiting ambulance for transport. Companies were then able to pick up.
