MAHWAH — Three concrete company workers standing near a broken-down cement truck were killed when a tractor-trailer struck them, crashed into the mixer and a sedan in a fiery wreck on Route 287 northbound Tuesday, authorities said.
The tractor-trailer -- loaded with bricks -- slammed into the side of the mixer as it was being worked on in the highway’s right shoulder shortly after 12:30 p.m. near the New York border, state police said. Two repair workers and the cement truck’s driver were hit and killed.
Police said the tractor-trailer also crashed into a silver Toyota Avalon carrying a married couple, pushed it “well ahead” of the cement mixer before both vehicles burst into flames in the right shoulder.
