Woman, daughter rescued after getting lost hiking in Parsippany

Daily Record

PARSIPPANY — A woman and her daughter were rescued Sunday evening after going for a hike in the woods off South Beverwyck Road and becoming lost, authorities said.

The pair were located just before 7:30 p.m., approximately 20 minutes after one used a cell phone to call 911.

Rockaway Neck Fire Department Chief Ken Lambert said the lost hikers used a flashing light to help rescuers spot them, a relatively short distance from the roadway inside the 3,100-acre Troy Meadows wetland.

Both were unharmed, though wet, and declined medical attention, he said. Temperatures were unseasonably warm, around 50 degrees, at the time.

It was not immediately known how long the two were in the woods, or what drew them to the area. Lambert said their vehicle had Florida license plates.
